Visit a County Fair
One aspect of living in small town or rural America is attending a County Fair. These fairs are usually from July through September each year. One of the organizations that supports these fairs is 4-H. The clubs and their members and leaders have great shows and exhibits at these fairs. Some fairs do have open competitions for community members. Many of these fairs are free to enter the grounds.
I recently attended my County Fair and was so entertained by all the livestock show where the participants in 4-H and FFA Clubs were showing their beef or dairy cows, their pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and rabbits. The competitions were so well done by the 4-Hers. It was delightful to watch the competitions.
There are games for children depending on their age. Make sure and check the events calendar for games and contests for smaller children and competitions for older children.
The food stands and exhibitors are always fun. It is a great way to meet other people in the community who are exhibitors. Stop and take some time to specifically talk about their products and services. You may need their product or service. The food is always fun to include BBQ or beef sandwiches or pulled pork sandwiches. Ice cream shakes and cones keep you cool and there is always an assortment of other sodas and seltzers and waters.
If the fair has a carnival, of course, your children will want to ride a few rides! Grand Stand shows are also part of the shows.
Make time for you family to have some County Fair fun!
